Conference Championship Weekend E-mail

Tim TebowWith the college football regular season about at a close, this weekend is championship week for the elite conferences in the NCAA. On Saturday December 6th the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), Big 12, and Southeastern Conference (SEC) will all crown their champions of football. While a lot of pride comes with winning each respective conference championship, each of these games will have a major impact on the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) standings and the pairing for the BCS Bowl games (including the national championship game).

The ACC Championship game will be held this Saturday at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay Florida. This game will feature the winner of the Coastal and Atlantic Divisions- the Boston College Eagles and the Virginia Tech Hokies. Although both Boston College and Virginia Tech have been often overlooked; this should be a great game between 2 vastly underrated teams. Even those that aren’t fans of either team will be interested in the outcome as the winner of this game automatically earns a birth in the FedEx Orange Bowl. Look for this to be a rather low-scoring defensive battle. Currently, Boston College is the favorite by 1 point.

The SEC Championship game will feature 2 of the best teams in the nation; the Florida Gators and the Alabama Crimson Tide. These 2 teams will battle it out on Saturday 12/6 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta for SEC supremacy and a likely invitation to the BCS National Championship game. Although Alabama is the #1 team in the nation many believe the high powered Florida offense will prevail. Tim Tebow and the rest of Gator offense have been running on all cylinders and playing with a lot of confidence. Alabama will need a strong performance from their highly regarded defense and they will need their offense to keep up. Bama has the offensive talent to keep up with the Gators but may need to step outside of their comfort zone of pounding the ball with star running back Glen Coffee if they fall behind early. If Alabama is going to win, Nick Saban will need to utilize playmakers Julio Jones and Javier Arenas.

The Big 12 Championship game is full of controversy as the Oklahoma Sooners edged out the Texas Longhorns for the South Division title and a berth in the Big XII Championship football game. While both teams were tied, the Sooners got the nod as they were ranked slightly higher in the BCS standings. Oklahoma will face the North Division winner Missouri Tigers. The Sooners are 16.5 point favorites and a win against Missouri would likely mean a chance to play in the BCS National Championship game. While the Oklahoma defense has been less than impressive, the offense is as explosive as any team in the nation having scored 60+ points in 4 straight games. Though many don’t give Missouri a chance, the Tiger’s Chase Daniels to Jeremy Macklin connection is dangerous. One thing is for certain, Longhorns fans will be rooting for Missouri.

Tickets to these exciting games are available at the Ticket Lodge with many going for less than face value. If you are a college football fan and will be in the area, you won’t want to miss it.
