What does it mean to be a fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins? Being a Pens fan requires extreme devotion and trust, especially over the last several seasons. For anyone like myself that grew up watching Lemieux and company win their Stanley Cups in the early 90's, only to see the team struggle financially through bankruptcy (twice) knows exactly what kind of devotion is needed to endure the peaks and valleys of the Penguins franchise.

Remember, just one season ago (while were all enjoying the Sidney Crosby led Pen's rise to prominence) the teams future in Pittsburgh was in jeopardy. A new arena was needed and nobody was sure if it was going to get built. Kansas City was looking like a realistic option. How can this be? How can the team leave town just as they were returning to greatness? A dark cloud covered every good thing that happened on the ice.

Eventually an arena deal was signed and the Penguins made their first postseason appearance since the Jagr era ended. Through all of the turmoil and recent losing seasons, we all endured the deepest valley an organization could handle. Now we can enjoy what will undoubtedly be the Penguins returning to the peak of the NHL, the Stanley Cup.
